DAWRA HADHEES

The term “Hadith” in Arabic is used for speech, but here it is used for the sayings, practices and agreeing of Allah’s apostle Muhammed (saw). The companions of the Prophet (saw) while they have been practicing the areas hadiths, they were memorizing them by heart and they have taught and worked to spread them in all the they lived and travelled. So, the hadiths were transferred from generation to another verbally.

When learning and teaching of hadiths was extinct in the world, the Indian born Scholar Shah Waliyullah Dihlawi (1114-1179) went to Hijaz (Macca and Madinah region) and learned Hadith with narrators’ series and hadith related knowledge from prominent scholars of that area like Abu Thahir Muhammed bin Raheem Al-Kurdhi Al-Madani.

On his return, Shah Waliullah began to teach the famous six hadith books with narrators in his father’s Raheemiyyah College, the current hadith course being conducted by the respective colleges is the upgraded version of the aforesaid service inaugurated by Shah Waliullah. The graduates of this College founded a number of centers conducting this hadith course around the world. Especially Dew-Banth Dharul Uloom College, Saharanpoor Malahirul Uloom College and some other Colleges have been contributing to spread this course worldwide. As a result of this deed there are a number of interpretations to the hadith written by the Indian, Pakistanis, and Bangladeshi scholars.

In this course, around 28,000 hadiths contained in these six prominent hadith books are being  taught through two methods:

 1. The teacher reading the hadith with the narrators’ names with explanation and the students listen to him.
 2. One of the students read the hadith with the narrator’s names and the teacher explains them, and the students listen to the teacher’s explanations.

Through these two methods, the Ulamas can gain many benefits like:

1. Following chain narrators in Quran and hadith narrations is significant
specially for the Muslim community. Since this tradition is followed strictly, the falsification of massages couldn’t be mixed in the Quran & hadith, On the other hand the previous religions like Judaism, Christianity exposed a lot of forgeries due to the absence of this system in their tradition. Here the saying of Imam Abdullah bin Mubarak is quotaed as he said “if not for the Isnath (narrators’ series) everybody can say whatever we want”.

2. The learners of this course could understand the primary source of the Shariah disciplines which have been learnt in the Moulavi/Aalim course.

The scholars who learnt this course in India & Pakistan desired to introduce this course in Sri Lanka upon their return to the country. So there was a lengthy discussion at Dheaniyyah Arabic College Panadura regarding this theme in 1994& decided to launch this course at Grandpass Marcas & in Deeniya Arabic College Panadura. And then it hasbeen spread to other Colleges island wide, like Hashimiyyah Nawalapitiya, Khidhriyyah and Bari Aziziyaah Weligama, Ibn Umar Panadura, Sabeelur Rashad Katankudy, Saad College Mawadipalli, Jamiah Islamiah Wellawatte. In this series, this course is being taught in our College for the past three years. This is a one year course and it was started on 2012.09.16 with qualified 08 teachers. And, there are a significant number of Ulamas Island wide following this course.
